i have nothing against those places or anything but just wondering why do you plan to move there? well, if i'm not careful it will turn into one of those irritating long, drawn out "im kewl cuz i went to this place and you didn't so blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah " stories (im sure you've heard one from a relative somewhere and they tell it every time they come over and you just wanna punch them in the face....), so i'll skip all that nonsense. Basically, i took a quarter of college in europe and over thanksgiving break I was able to do a little traveling. the two areas i liked the best were germany/austria and the czech republic. I really like the german language, so i would fit right in with germany and i could pick it up easily. One of my friends has actually started teaching in eastern europe (mainly russia but also in the czech republic) and i like that language too. its not as kewl as german, but more people speak it. so, that's why those two areas. the other big thing going for the czech republic is that it is a very new democracy (just a little over 10 years) so they are one of the few countries where freedom actually means freedom. They only have laws that are required for society to continue to function. You don't have 200 years of laws of religion and tradition. as much as I love the good old USA, we really are a non-secular police state. Many of our 'freedoms' are not as free or permanent as we would like to think. (If you don't believe me, try walking down the street in virginia or south carolina using duct tape for underwear... yes, there is a band's stage performance behind this story). but it's my country and I still love it, flawed as it is, and i'll keep my permanent residence here in good old seattle, wa.
